FPL Draft Scoring Explained

FPL Draft uses the same base scoring as Classic FPL — goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus and Defensive Contribution — with one defining difference: no captains and no chips, so every player scores single points.

How bonus points work

In every Premier League match, the Bonus Points System (BPS) scores each player across dozens of underlying actions — completed passes, tackles won, chances created, shots on target, goals, saves, and negative actions like being tackled or conceding fouls. It runs continuously through the match and settles shortly after full-time.

The three highest BPS scorers in each match earn extra points: 3 for the top score, 2 for the second, 1 for the third. Ties share the award — two players level on the top BPS score both get 3 bonus points.

Draft managers should care about BPS profiles when choosing between similar players: penalty takers, set-piece specialists and goalscoring defenders systematically harvest more bonus than their raw output suggests. Draft FC's expected-points model bakes bonus expectation into every projection members see.

Draft vs Classic: what actually differs

  • No captains. Classic's doubled captain score does not exist — single points for everyone. Consistent all-rounders gain relative value; one-week captaincy darlings lose it.
  • No chips. No Wildcard, Free Hit, Bench Boost or Triple Captain. Squad improvement happens only through waivers and trades.
  • No prices or budget. Player value is purely about points and availability — nobody "can't afford" anyone.
  • Same match scoring. Goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus, Defensive Contribution and deductions are identical to Classic — form knowledge transfers directly.

Scoring FAQs

How does FPL Draft scoring work?

FPL Draft uses the same base scoring as Classic FPL: points for minutes, goals, assists, clean sheets, saves and bonus, with deductions for cards, own goals and missed penalties. The big difference is there are no captains and no chips — every player scores single points, so your rank is decided by drafting, waivers and lineup calls rather than captaincy.

How do bonus points work in FPL Draft?

Bonus points work exactly as in Classic FPL. In every Premier League match, the Bonus Points System (BPS) scores each player across dozens of actions — passes, tackles, chances created, goals, saves and more. The three highest BPS scorers in the match receive 3, 2 and 1 extra points. Ties share the bonus at each level.

What is Defensive Contribution in FPL Draft scoring?

Defensive Contribution, introduced in 2025/26, rewards outfield players for defensive actions. Defenders earn 2 points for every 10 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT) in a match. Midfielders and forwards earn 2 points per 12 actions, with ball recoveries also counting (CBIRT). It is capped at 2 points per player per match.

Do clean sheets score the same in FPL Draft as Classic?

Yes. Goalkeepers and defenders earn 4 points for a clean sheet (playing 60+ minutes), midfielders earn 1, and forwards earn 0. Goalkeepers and defenders also lose a point for every 2 goals their team concedes.

Are there captains or chips in FPL Draft?

No. FPL Draft has no captains, no vice-captains, no Triple Captain, Bench Boost, Free Hit or Wildcard chips. Every starting player earns single points. Automatic substitutions are the only lineup automation: if a starter does not play, the first eligible bench player is subbed in.
